OT - Rode NT1 - bad news then good

Yesterday for some reason my two year old NT1 mic was dead - worked one day, not the next.

Anyway, I emailed Rode and got an almost immediate reply - send it to them (the other side of Australia) and they will fix it and return it at no cost - sorry I was having hassles etc.

Makes you feel good when people remember what service is.

Peter,
I've got a NT1A, I'd be interested to hear how it died when you get it back. One thing they're sensitive to is moisture.

Did you get the feeling they knew what was wrong?
I ask because NT-1 is on my wish-list. I have recently bought the NT 5 stereo pair and I look forward to start using them for real. It's good to know people can say good things about the company's service attitude.

Bob, I was told when I bought it that there had been a problem with soldering, and that's why the NT1A was born. (The NT1s they were then sellling for A$250 had passed tests.) I'll let you know what they find.

Whatever it was was amazingly spontaneous - it worked fine last Sunday, sat on its stand since then and was dead on Tuesday.

But, with the attitude I got from Rode, a flaw can become a strength ....

I have the NT1A, bought it for under AUD 300 and it's a fine sounding mic, not that I've had much to compare it with but I did record a girl singing with it a few days ago and got two phone calls to thank me for making her sound so good!
Don't know for sure if it was a) me, b) Vegas or c) the NT1A or D) all of the above!
Rode is actually Freedman and they do seem very dedicated to their craft with very serious investment in world class plant. In this day and age that any company gives a rats about one guy with one dead mic is pretty impressive.
