OT: Royalty Free Music Survey

For those of you who don't do your own music, but use royalty free tracks in your productions:

1) What kind of production do you normally use music in?

2) Do you prefer longer tracks (5+ minutes) or shorter tracks?

3) Would you find it appealing to listen to samples and be able to download MP3s immediately?

4) For a download service, would you rather pay per track, or pay for 5 packs (10 packs, etc.) at a lower per-track price?

5) If you could download packs of music tracks, would you want them mixed or all in the same genre (in each individual pack)?

6) Would something broken down like this (full, :60, :60, :30, :30 & 3 loops based on the same composition) be of use as an individual download, or would it be "too much?"

We're tossing around some ideas and appreciate any feedback you could give us. Thanks.

Kevin

Corporate Video and Broadcast Commercial

2) Do you prefer longer tracks (5+ minutes) or shorter tracks?

Depends. Most Corporate pieces are under 15 minutes, while broadcast needs are usually 10 sec, 15 sec and 30 sec.

3) Would you find it appealing to listen to samples and be able to download MP3s immediately?

Yes, although I'd prefer .wav files over MP3

4) For a download service, would you rather pay per track, or pay for 5 packs (10 packs, etc.) at a lower per-track price?

Per track.

5) If you could download packs of music tracks, would you want them mixed or all in the same genre (in each individual pack)?

Same Genre, not sure what chances would be that I could use everything in a pack unless I was just shopping to build up a diverse library.

6) Would something broken down like this be of use as an individual download, or would it be "too much?"

Not sure what you mean as an individual download? 5 tracks all at once in a zipped file? Depends on the format and length.

My opinion to most all questions are similar to Cheno's, so I wont repeat.

I'm assuming on Question 6 you are refering to piece length? ie same song with a duration of 30,60 etc. if so yes that would be good .
or how bout some sort of music blocks sort of sonic fire pro / acid like .
maybe each has a intro, verse, chorus, bridge, ending where we could sort of semi taylor the length ourselves.
I geuss you could sort of do that using the loops like in demo file.
Just some thoughts, like the stuff you already have alot too!

The "this" above is actually a link to a zip file with sample material.

We've played with the idea of a "make it yourself" package - two intros, 4 A sections, 4 B sections, 2 outros -- for people to put together (A & B sections all loopable). My only fear is that it would require an element of explanation, as opposed to ready-made beds that are drop-n-go.

What we are debating is what the demand might be for any/all (or not at all) of Individual Compositions, Flexible Packs like this one, each based on a single composition, 60-30-15 combos and Do-It-Yourself loop-based genre comps.

I know on-demand media isn't anything new, but most of the time you either run into cheese, or pricey stuff. This would be quality stuff at a very reasonable price, with full usage licensing.
