OT: run-out groove sound

jeremyk wrote on 5/7/2004, 1:10 PM
I'm looking for the sound of the needle in the eccentric run-out groove when a 78 RPM record ends. I could have easily made one of these myself about 40 years ago, but Vegas wasn't around yet to put it into. Now I don't have either the record or the phonograph...

I guess I could try faking one, but a real one would sound so much better. Anybody have this or know where to find it?

I have a CD at home with a few of these on it. I got it off e-bay, I think it was called Radioactive Noise or something like that. But I am sure there are some free ones out there, I just have no idea where they are.

www.findsounds.com has a number of "vinyl record scratch" sounds. Maybe there's something you can use.

You could also try:

www.sounddogs.com
(search under "phonograph")

For example, there's one called:
RADIO PHONOGRAPH - 1950+S - CRACKLE FROM RUN OUT GROOVE - RECORD OFF

Thank you all! JL, the Sounddogs file is exactly what I wanted, and much better than the one I made by combining some record scratch sounds.

This group is fantastic.
