OT: Safest codec to hand off DV footage for MAC

Cliff Etzel wrote on 9/21/2009, 2:09 PM
I have a friend who has no experience with editing video footage and wants to try his hand at it with iMovie. Seems he can't get the firewire to see his camera (Canon Elura)

I ingested the SD footage onto my computer from the camera and want to render out the clips to Apple complaint quicktime files - any recommendations on the safest codec to render out so I can burn them to a DVD? He can do the rest.

Thanks,

.mxf.
Have em' download the free plugin for FCP (if they're using Premiere or Avid, they won't need it) from sony.com/XDCAM.

Pretty certain iMovie can handle bog standard DV AVI files straight out of Vegas.
