OT: Sandisk memory and volatility

(My 1st OT topic...)

My digital video camcorder has a SD secure memory Sandisk slot. I may want to use it for minimal applications.

**Root question: If there is NO power to the Sandisk card, the card is just sitting there not "in" anything, will it hold the data/pictures/whatever indefinitely?

I seem to not be able to get a straight answer; some newsgroups seem to imply that they, the cards, draw power from the device, which would seem to indicate that it is volatile storage, yet it is called "secure". The Sandisk site says that it's non-volatile, and it says data is not lost "when the power is turned off." Even though the device is "off," there can still be power flow from a source to the card...

...maybe I'm reading too much into this. Is power required at all for this card to maintain indefinite data storage?

Can someone please set me straight? I haven't been in the memory card loop since PCMCIA (PC) Type 2 cards for my long discontinued HP200LX palmtop computer... :)

Thanks for your help!!
