OT - selling on ebay?

Anybody sold on ebay lately? For an occasional seller like myself it seems loaded in favour of the buyer and ebay themselves now. A recent item totalled 20% of the final value with the various charges applied. Added to that, the cheapest insured postage cost 3 times what I was allowed to charge! Any recommendations for alternatives in future?

I haven't sold something in the past month or so but I've had no issues with it. I could charge whatever I wanted to for shipping.

I can't speak for your area but when it comes to selling equipment I always first try Craigslist. I always specify local pick up and cash only. Though quite often you'll get a scammer reply saying that they want whatever your selling but if you would ship they'll send a check blah blah blah, but those are pretty easy to spot and easy to ignore. Aside from that I've had a lot of success selling cameras, lenses and whatnot, some not so cheap. One lens I sold that was about 2k new I listed for around $1800 and a buyer drove two hours to get it the same day. Just remember to remove the listing once someone buys it or you'll get replies for weeks. Overall a whole lot easier than making a listing on eBay, giving up a percentage, packaging and shipping.

Depending on if you have a network of twitter followers or not, i have seen people successfully selling on there. If its an interesting piece of kit, some may even re-tweet it and spread the word. Seen a few video monitors and lenses go recently. But caution needed obviously. Its a risk.

Oh, and almost forgot - isn't there a Vegas selling forum?? I forget the location, someone please post it.
