OT-Sennheiser ew100 g2 display problem

Hi folks,

I've scoured the internet looking for a solution but haven't found anyone with this problem. I have a Sennheiser G2 bodypack receiver that has a garbled display on the top half of the display. The unit still works but is nearly impossible to tweak settings because you can't read much of the display. Have any of you seen this before and have a fix? I was able to (painfully) navigate to the reset and successfully reset it but it did not help. Sennheiser says I have to send it in for a fix but was hoping someone here might have a solution that doesn't cost $69.95. The unit does still work otherwise. You just can't read it.

Thanks,
jab

If taking the batteries out for ten minutes does not solve the problem, it's unlikely to be something you can solve yourself.

It's a hardware failure either in the display itself or the electronics driving it. The only thing you might do yourself (if you're willing to risk it) is take it apart and reseat the cable going to the display at both ends. If it's accessible. On some displays it's permanently attached at the display end.

G2's are so compact and tight I don't recommend working on them yourself. Although the user could replace certain parts themselves on the G1, I don't recommend it with the G2. It's more likely to assume the unit got dropped; I've never had a loose ribbon cable in 15 years of owning and using Sennheisers commercially.

Oh well, guess I'll box it up and send it to Sennheiser. I bought it yesterday from a craigslist add and got a couple of other accessories with it. An audio technica lav, a beachtek DXA-2S and a pelican case. It all looks brand new and I only paid $200 for the lot. guess another $70 won't hurt too bad.

Thanks,

The price you paid was pretty low, so having it repaired would seem a reasonable way to go.

The Beachtek alone is around $200 iirc, so I hope you didn't unknowingly buy some hot gear.

Wasn't hot. It was a divorce sale. I bought from the wife who was clearing out her exhubbies toys. I told her to call me with a list of gear!

I assume Sennheiser would have the serial number registered so that he can determine prior ownership? He might want to have the registration changed over to his name while he's at it.

So the wife stole it.

The Sennheser may be in the now illegal 700 range.

It is in the 500mhz range.

Thought I'd share a picture of my "ultimate" portable Sennheiser system, with custom dedicated distribution amps and DC power, rear balanced patch bay, integrated line mixer / headphone amp, and a tripplite power filter. Before anyone asks, it's already been sold . . .
