OT: Serious Magic Vent

I am highly aggravated so bear with me....

Has anyone had problems with Serious Magic lately? I had some computer problems and chose to make a few changes, re-format, and re-load my software. Everything went well except trying to activate Ultra in order to install and again try to activate Ultra2. I get nothing but errors activating over the interent. I have sent 3 emails and received nothing but the complimentary "we got it" email. I just called on the phone and was forced to leave a message so they could "call me back". I spent a lot of money getting these two programs. I have recommended their program to other people countless times. I have never called technical support before and don't really have a technical problem. To send me an activation number would take about 2 clicks of the mouse. This kind of business really pisses me off.

Ok, I thought I'd feel better to rant for a minute. But I don't!!!

I agree with you, their activation program is second only to one other company out there. It's ridiculous when you have to wait for an email that a person sends, or a phone call to activate your software. I'm 3 revs behind one one software app, simply because I tend to do my upgrades on Thurs/Fri in the week (for whatever reason) and these guys only allow a 72 hour window to reply to emails. So, by Monday I'm screwed. And when we're traveling for training and not near the computer 18/6...it's a mess.

Anyway, I did have opportunity to speak to someone at Serious Magic via email today, and mentioned your post. Below is the email sent back to me.
Our tech team can't post on the Sony site because we don't have any Sony software that we've activated. Our activation program is currently being reworked so users won't have this problem. Also, he wanted to say, that the calls were particularly heavy today and he's sorry he didn't get back to him in a timely manner. He said he probably did talk to him by the time that you've rec'd this email

I did get a call this evening about 7:00est.....luckily I was still hanging around the studio (I have no life!) I don't recall the gentleman's name but he was very cordial and fixed my problem quickly. On one hand glad to hear others feel like I do but on the other, sorry they have to go through it also.

The funny thing was all it took was an update patch to get the activation to work. I read all the FAQs regarding activation and the other help files and no where did it mention this update. Sure would have saved me (and I'm sure others) a lot of frustration to have just mentioned in in the FAQs with the rest of the suggestions to try the update if you have problems!!

For anyone following this post, the needed update is ULTRA 1.25.2231.0 Update.exe....listed under the Ultra Software Updates.

All is well that ends well I suppose. And thanks for looking out for me Spot!!
