OT: Set top DVD player

Hello my daughter needs a DVD player that will play NTSC and PAL DVD's. She may be moving from here (US) to England sometime in the next year or so and I would like to send it with her and be able to send her DVD's from here after she moves. Are there and any DVD players that will do this, out of the box? I suppose the is a TV issue too but she may have to live with that.

Actually a lot of them these days will do it. We have a cheap little $50 Apex AD-1500 that will do it, and I know there are a lot of other models out there that will do it as well.

Why not save her carrying it to England & give her the money to buy one there. Most PAL players play NTSC.

If her TV in England only accepts PAL odds are that a UK sourced PAL player will convert the NTSC to PAL60 so she coud view it on a PAL set.

Take a look at DVDRhelp.com
They have lists of current players and what they are capable of. Also some tips on the Zone issue.

It would be better, and maybe cheaper, for her to buy one in England. One reason is that we are at 60 and they are at 50 as far as electricity goes. The plugs are different as well. Sure she can buy one of those universal plug adaptors they sell but IMO it would be easier to just get the deck over there.

Apex is a great for making PAL/NTSC players and they are available in Europe as well although they may be marketed under a different brand name. The US website with the DVD players is: http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/proddisp.asp?category=DVD%20Players

The 50/60 Hz thing is rarely an issue these days, the 110/230 V can be much more of an issue.
