OT: Should I go for this graphics adapter?

Hi,

I found a danish website where they advertize ASUS EN7800GT/D/2HDTV/512M, Dual chip, PCI Express16 at a prize of approximately £380.

Will it be a good idea to go for this? I have seen it advertized elsewhere at about £600.

Are there more than one version of this particular card?

In general, a beefed-up, high-powered video card is of little benefit using Vegas 6. No GPU acceleration benefits are in Vegas 6. I have no idea if GPU acceleration will be introduced in future versions of Vegas, but for VV 6 and below this holds true.

There are a few third-party programs that DO benefit from GPU acceleration. Some of the compositing and effects programs use it.

The reason they are blowing it out is that this is from the previous generation, since superseded by the 7900 series.

You could buy the new series for less money, and it will also use less power (and create less heat).

And, as mentioned, no help for Vegas 6, although it could help V7, we don't know yet.

OTOH, there are scores of other software programs that can use the support, and many of those work well with Vegas.
