OT: Smartsounds in Vegas/Acid?

PDB wrote on 1/7/2004, 4:40 AM
Can any kind soul who has Sonic Fire Pro and/or Smartsounds confirm whether the Smartsound tracks work directly within Vegas and/or Acid? I feel a bit dumb asking this but basically what I would like to know is whether or not I need to buy the programme to be able to use the royalty free tracks/sounds/pieces from SmartSounds.

FWIW, I have Acid 3, bought a number of libraries and really enjoy creating music pieces with it. However, I seem to be getting involved in actually producing videos for commercial purposes (terriffying to think anyone wants me to make a vid and actually pay me for it...) The first one I did, I created the "music" in Acid (not a bad effort...) but if I get really involved in any further vid for pay, I don't think I'll have the time to invest a few hours to create all the "music" (I do all this in my spare time...), so need some canned stuff and Smartsounds seem to be very decent, and it would be great to be able to use it and put a few loops in here and there...

I might eventually buy the programme, but for the time being would like to be able to use the music with either Vegas or Acid if possible...

Many thanks for your kind help,

Paul.

No. Smartsound does not work as a plugin for Vegas. What I do is use
frameserver to bring the part of the video I want to score into Smartsound, with the "frameserved" clip I score it, save it (audio only), exit Smartsound,
stop frameserving and place and sync the audio into the timeline. I know this sounds like a lot of work but it's not once you have tried it a couple of times.

BUT, it would be nice to have Smartsound work directly from within the Vegas program!

Hope this helps.....if you need help on frame serving just do a search in the forums or visit Satish at www.debugmode.com

I doubt you'll ever see Smartsound functioning with Vegas, unless Smartsound someday accepts T/C input and will chase MTC. Vegas can send it with no issue. Smartsound is a major competitor to Acid.
If you really wanted to use a Smartsound piece in Acid, you can render the Smartsound to a wav, import to Acid or Forge to convert to Acidized audio file, and then you've got it.

Maybe this is common knowledge many not... You can rename a SmartSound lib file (I think the extenstion is .sds or something like that) to .wav and use it as a wav file.

It actually is a wav file. I know this works for the 22k files don't know about the 44k.

Then you can use the file in what ever (Acid or VV).

Hey, I didn't know that! The files are actually packaged as quicktime files, but of course, QT can play wavs....Great tip!
I'll try this with a 44.1 file now.

I wouldn't really see Smartsound as a competitor to ACID. There is a bit of overlap but Smartsound is point a click and is crying out to be integrated with the timeline ala premier. I see ACID as a more creative tool.

IMHO

You don't necessarily need to rename the file. Set the View in the media explorer to All Files to see the file.

When you click on the file, Vegas will try to identify its format to determine if it can load the file. If so, then you'll see information about the audio and/or video in the media explorer and you can use it in your project. If not, it will just show the full path of the file.

Hey, I didn't know that!

I guess that is how this whole "Internet" thing is suppose to work. I hope it catches on :)

I'll give the "open smartsound file directly in vegas" a try!
