As far as performance goes, there are some dependencies on which OS and which version of Vegas you're using. There are several threads on 64-bit performance, you may want to read up on the collective knowledge/experiences so far.

Sounds like you may have a system is capable of running a 64-bit OS. Experimenting with Vegas 8.1 on a 64-bit OS may be the way to go. Like I said before, review the 64-bit/performance threads since 8.1 was released and you'll get a preview of what to expect.
