OT: "Soft poof" flashbulb sound effect?

kentwolf wrote on 5/4/2006, 6:51 PM
Would anyone happen to know where I could find the sound effect for an old fashioned sorta like a soft "poof" sound that would accompanying the effect of snapping a picture?

I believe it is the sound for old sulpher based flash bulb.

I cannot seem to find it anywhere.

If you could help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I am old enough to have actually used flashbulbs. Just gave away some beautiful 1950s flash guns, and a few remaining bulbs. One of these guns was the really big, polished chrome reflector variety. I don't remember these making much of a sound, except for a very quiet pfftt sound. In the movies, they are often depicted making almost as much noise as flash powder. I actually used to make very interesting "pyrotechnic devices" using this stuff and it DID make a lot of noise. Almost lost my left hand when one went off before it should.

John, you obviously never fired a flashbulb the size of a 100W lightbulb. Those popped followed by a decaying crackling effect. Oh, they did go pffftt when they failed to detonate.

You are correct. The biggest was the size of a really big Christmas tree light.
