This Hard Drive Monitor is free and keeps a constant status of your HD showing. I would perhaps suggest it for everyone as we all should have a good idea of how our equipment is running at all times, so that we know when it goes bad.

Most newer hard drives already have that.

Just enable SMAART monitoring in your bios.
