OT: Sony PlayMemories Software

Hello All:

I received "Sony PlayMemories" media management software along with my cx760v. Normally I don't install this sort of stuff, but I thought oh well, let's see what it is.

Turns out it is a rather nifty little program given that it's free. As expected, it gives you thumbnail and property views of your photos and videos. You can tag, rate, rename, etc. It supports JPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVC, and so on. BUT it does not support my HDV footage, which is *.m2t (MPEG-2?) format. Dang! So the software is more or less useless to me.

Any suggestions on a better media management software? A view of music would be nice, but that is optional. I've tried the Media Manager that comes with Vegas Pro. It's okay but not my fave. I'm not adverse to paying a few $$$ if it works well.

Regards,

Kimberly

BUT it does not show videos from my old Sony HC3's, which are HDV, presumably MPEG2?

Kimberly, there have been some alternatives offered for PC users of the Windows OS Explorer for quite some time. I don't know what the current state of development is for these third-party products - which Microsoft likes to kill off with each succeeding generation of Win XP SrvcP3, Win 7 Pro 64bit, and now Windows 8.
