OT: Sony Please advise on H.264 NextGen DVD

Can one of the Sony members, please advise those of us that want to get a head start on producing HD content for next gen players?

Call it a hunch but I am assuming that V7+DVDA4 will allow us to author HD discs (either/or BD/HD DVD). Without breaking NDA, can you at least give us an idea about bitrate etc.... so we can start to encode content now especially since encoding at 1080i takes forever and a week. Perhaps just a guideline to follow so we dont have to turn around and re-render H.264 AVC files if we are blessed with next generation authoring in the upcoming V7. At the very least, some sort of confirmation that H.264 AVC HD renders from V6d will be compatible for use in authoring HD discs.

Thanks.

That's a tall request, they're still figting over the DRM issues, they're now admitting that the first generation players will need heavy firmware updates and the first generation disks mightn't play in the second generation drives or something like that. Does any of this matter seeing as how you can be certain none of use will be able to use their DRM to protect our content, I haven't a clue.
Still it seems the Xbox can deliver HD off current media and we can create content for it. The box is almost cheap enough to include one as a 'gift' in the deal.

Well AACS has been ironed out as of this week. Personally, DRM will be a sale killer. Im not looking to use DRM nor will I ever use it.

I woul just like to get a head start on something I have been working on that is going to be exclusively released in HD (cant say now, not until it is all done. More to come on it later.)

Im just hoping would at least say H.264 AVC encodes from V6d will be compatible/authorable for next gen devices.

Check Wikipedia forH.264 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H264 ), a lot of technical info there. A lot of the maximum rates depend on the Profiles of the video:

"High Profile (HiP): The primary profile for broadcast and disc storage applications, particularly for high-definition television applications (this is the profile adopted into HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc, for example)."

I would think that some of the Vegas 6d settings fall within the compatibility range, at least that's what we're paying Sony for, to know what's coming up, right?

I did notice in the rightup that HD DVD-R specifications are not finalized, but that should hopefully not affect the format of the video content (H.264):

"The current specification version for HD DVD-ROM and HD DVD-Rewritable is version 1.0. The specification for HD DVD-R is currently at 0.9."
