OT-sort of... vegas and Efter Effects Question...

Hey fellow vegas users... I have been a vegas user since almost day one and love it. but I also do special effects in after effects and one of the biggest issues I always deal with is what codec to render to for best use in vegas.

I usually get best results(lack of artifacting) from uncompressed which means I have a long re-render in vegas. I just upgraded to a new computer and to vegas 9 and AE CS-4 and now I have to ask... Does anybody have a clue if their is a way to render to the sony dv or hdv codecs from after effects and avoid the long re-render so I can edit with the no recompress option? Are these codecs accessible for rendering from after effects? or am I only dreaming/wishing?

In the past I have tried about all the codecs that show up in previous versions of AE but I am starting on this crusade again in the hopes there is a way. or that things have changed. Can anybody suggest a solution?

Bryan.

yep...ive personally found a solution for that sometime ago...
I just purchase and install a copy of mainconcept DV Codec
and the option is present when rendering out from after effects...
Then when you drop that in vegas it needs no further
compression and you get a perfect dv clip.(no gamma shift no artifacts)
......exactly as the sony dv codec.

Yes I also own the Main Concept Codec but there seemed to be strange quirks that did not allow it to render as no recompress... Are there specific setting changes for that codec that you set in AE that made it work in no recompress for you? I agree it is the best solution I have found so far other then the uncompressed option. Thanks for your input!! Do you or anyone else have any ideas on this?

I've been using the Quicktime codec out of AE back into Vegas. I've not done anything overtly long so file size has not been an issue for me. My biggest issue to date has been the way Vegas handles the alpha channel, will this ever get fixed. As a result I do the entire comp in AE which can be a pain if it's just titles.

Gwyador,
i found out that Simply rendering out of after effects without selecting any audio
does the trick...(who works with audio from after effects anyway).

Over time, one gets quite familiar with how Vegas handles alpha channel and
stuff......its not a compositor..... so its not gonna function exactly as one.
