OT: Speakers "pop" when not in use

Jay Gladwell wrote on 11/8/2004, 6:47 AM
Recently, I upgraded to the M-Audio LX4 surround system. Now, when the system is on (not being used), almost on a regular basis (I haven't timed it), the speakers will emit three rapid, sharp, distinct pops--pop, pop, pop. Any idea as to what is happening or how I can stop it?

Thanks in advance!

Jay

souds like static or it's pickingup noise from your computer (at my weekend job, when they record audio they get wierd pops in it. Ends up it's the noise of the HD recording).

Maybe a ground thing?

May be...but they have a pretty responsive support team, you may want to ask them.

Jay,
This is actually a resource sending 'noise' when it's sharing. This happens on some systems. There was an article a couple years back in Electronic Musician, I doubt I've still got it around, but I'll give a quick look in my stack of mags. M-Audio should have the fix however, give em' a call.

Thanks, Douglas and everyone. I usually try to make calling the vendor the last thing I try. I'll return and report what the outcome was.

Spoke with a guy at tech support. Seems there was a conflict in sharing an IRQ setting with a USB connection. He had me turn off the computer, remove the sound card, turn the computer back on, then turn it off again and reinstall the card into a different slot. That, he said, should hopefully assign the card to a different port (or whatever it's called), which it did. It seems that this has fixed the problem.

It was Douglas' suggestion that steered him in the right direction. Thanks again Douglas!
