OT: Specialized Video Software For Projector / Live Concert

This is way off topic, but I thought someone here might be able to help. One of the bands that I work with wants to start adding a video show to go along with their live show. We were thinking of trying to set up a Projector and have the projector hooked up to a laptop on the side of the stage to control the video.
Does anyone know of any software programs that would be simple to use for this kind of application? We are basically looking to have a bunch of short clips on a laptop that are loopable, and we would like to call up one of them and have it play, then easily be able to switch to another clip. I know Vegas technically could do this, but I was wondering if there might be something ele out there that may be more designed for this type of application.
Hopefully this makes some kind of sense, if not I can try to explain it a little further. Cost is a big issue here so the cheaper the better!

You might want to just try using a DVD player. They are much more stable and less likely than a computer to stutter. End actions should provide looping if that's what you need.

If you dont' mind spending a little money and need live mixing, then look at the video toaster ... VT[3] from newtek. You can do nearly anything you've seen on Television with live mixing and overlays. The big thing with this kind of system is having a hard drive system that can handle the bandwidth for live production.

You might like to look at the "turnkey" products from "Edirol" that are designed for these sorts of live-event video production.

For instance Their PR-50 Realtime Video Presenter

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at them...looks like VJCentral might be what I need for now. Just something cheap so we can try it out and see how well it will work before we invest a lof of money in a system designed just for that purpose.
