Just wanted to say thanks to DSE for the "Now Hear This" DVD on audio recording, it's terrific (from www.vasst.com). I learned more in the first 40 minutes from it, than I'd known for years ... he's an ace.

And they fedexed it to me, so I got it inside 2 days, wow.

Douglas, you're truly a talented guy... thanks to you, and your Vegas 4 DVDs, I did my first ever "big" 7 DVD course (tradingvideos.com) and it's been a bestseller... over $300K in sales in its first year.

Having had zero experience with NLEs pre-Vegas/pre-Spot, it's great to see how much confidence, and skill, I picked up by following along with his (and Gary K's) DVDs.

Now I can get even better production quality by learning about higher quality audio. From newbie to successful indie producer, thx to Spot.

Anyways, a public kudos and sincere thanks to the guy who's really, truly, helped me learn Vegas and to become commercially successful with it. Thanks DSE ... and also, for all your patience and helpful posts on the board here. You've made a difference.

Regards,

Ken

Ken, I second the motion---Its nice to hear a success story, particularly in this very competitive field. DSE is a multi-tasking treasure who deserves all the Kudos he gets. It would be interesting if you could give people a sense of how you went about putting together your DVD's---from conception through post-production. I know there are lots of people who would benefit.

I didn’t want to post about this because I was afraid it will be looked upon as a biased advertisement, but I had a similar experience this week so I know EXACTLY how you feel. (caveat: if you don’t know already I work at VASST).

I had just finished our new Media Manager training DVD. I spent two days doing color correction on some chroma key footage that I shot under exposed (don’t ask... it was a bad day). I was trying to match it with the good footage I had shot the day before. I was muddling through it thinking I knew what I was doing but it was taking far longer than I expected to get good results. Finally, I got the DVD mastered and sent it off to the duplicator when what do you think arrives in my mail that very afternoon but the new Absolute Training for Vegas+DVD Series Vol. 4 Color Correction for Sony Vegas. I had forgotten that I asked for a copy and only had it shipped to me via ground because I wasn’t in a rush.

I’ve got to send a big BRAVO out to our own Glenn Chan and, of course, DSE. Within the first 20 minutes of watching the DVD, Spot says, “let me show you how to correct underexposed footage”. My eyes opened wide. He took a totally different approach than I had and within seconds had great results. I stopped the video, opened my Vegas project with my underexposed chroma key footage and within seconds I had it perfectly matched to the previous days shoot. NOW he tells me! I screamed out.

Bottom line: I could have saved myself two days of agonizing work had I requested our own training DVD’s a little sooner. There is just something about being shown a procedure on video that you just can’t get out of a book.

So if I may be so bold as to recommend our own product, if you want to know how to do color correction and other restorations techniques, you gotta check out: Absolute Training for Vegas+DVD, Vol. 4 Color Correction in Sony Vegas. Glenn and Spot do an outstanding job of explaining what is sometimes a difficult subject to master.
