OT: Strange Computer Problem- Help

When I bought my desktop it shipped to me with a Pentium 4 2.60GHz w/HT technology. I just ran an intel processor ID program and it says it can't find the HT!! I ran the utility to identify my processor number and was shocked to see this error. I then ran an intel HT test utility and it doesn't find it either. I go into my hardware device manager and it no longer looks like HT is available.....!!!????

Has anyone ever had this happen? I've made no changes to the computer except I had to replace the power supply once. I know it was there at one time......how is this possible?

AAAHHHH

Try going into your CMOS and see if HT is activated or if the HT is even in CMOS. HT can be turned on or off in the CMOS (bios).

JJK....THANK YOU

It was in CMOS and showed disabled.....it's back up and all diags show it now. Wonder how long that has been off (more importantly....how it became disabled)?

Odds are it was never enabled to begin with. At my work place, I got 2 IBM Intellistations last fall (P4, 3.4 HT) and, because I was swamped with students, didin't have a chance to check until almost Christmas. Imagine my (stunned) surprise when I discovered HT was disabled :-(
