I have a mini disc recorder(iRiver h120) with poor external Mike. Could anyone suggest a Stereo External Microphone. Should it be powered or un-powered? (I plan to use it at a concert I am filming for the performer, and will match audio and video up later in Vegas Video. Thanks in advance. -Diego
Minidisc and matching synch later is a real pain and hours of extra work. If I were you I would try to feed whatever you set up directly into the camera.
However, if you are looking for an excellent streo mike that can plug directly into the minidisc or the camera itself (assuming you have a stereo input in the camera) is the Audio Technica AT-822. Uses a single AA battery. Comes with all necessary adapters. I use mine all the time. Around $250.
The Audio Technica 822/825 is a GREAT option, IF you have to use a mic. But, as Scott recommends, try getting an auxiliary audio feed from the desk and use the cam mics for audience response.
