OT: Tape Compatibility

I know this has been asked before but could not find search terms to find the information. I remember reading but never thought it would apply as I only use one quality and type of tape PANASONIC AY-DVM63PQ.

Well my trusted internet supplier has failed miserably in supplying my order for a 5 hour 4 camera shoot tomorrow. Order placed on Tuesday, Confirmed on the phone Thursday that the tapes would arrive on Friday - they are not here and I now must find a local replacement.

WOuld any panasonic be compatible with these? If not which brands use the same lubrication? I truly appreciate anyones help and sorry again for posting OT and on a subject which has been covered before.

They are 63 minute tapes. (63 minutes in DV SP mode less if your camera is in DVCAM mode around 40 minutes.)

I use AY-DVM83MQ for 55 minutes in DVCAM mode.

Hope that helps.

I believe Fuji make the tapes for Panasonic so you can use FujiFilm tapes without any worry.

Use any tape but if in any doubt clean heads before using different brand. We hire out lots of cameras and clients use whatever they damn well please. Despite that I think once in my 5 years we've had one major head gummy that needed a pro with a jackhammer to clean off. I seem to recall even from the same manufacturer different tapes may use wet ot dry lube so be careful.

Thanks to you all. Supposedly it does not make a difference (I did additional research last night) but I appreciate the real advice from real users you all provided.

I am going to go with Fuji as the add on tape - now off to the tape store and then 6 hours of marching bands.

Thanks again
