I know a while back everyone was talking about the Zoom digital audio recorder. I needed one Saturday and went to a couple of stores and the only thing I could find was the Tascam DR-07. I went online and read several good reviews so I bought it.
If you need a good audio digital recorder, I can recommend this one for a couple of reasons.
First, it is very intuitive. I only had to check a few things in the manual and I was up and running. I needed to record off of a soundboard at a church event. I took a feed from the Tape output and recorded at 48k WAV. The recording is very clean, but the thing I was happiest about is the rock solid lock. I was running two video cameras and the recorder and then brought them into Vegas. From what I can tell, the recorder did not drift at all, If it did, it is less than a frame over a 45 minute recording.
This recorder has Line input as well as two mics for stereo and a mic input. Only complaint from some might be that the plugs are mini stereo plugs, not XLR or even RCA. It also has a headphone mini plug out, but this does not seem active while recording. Or at least in my quick test it wasn't. But the meters are easy to read for setting level and it has a physical volume recording control. The output control is a button up and down. It records on SD cards and comes with a 2gig card.
I have not tested the Mic recording extensively yet, as I needed it primarily for line recording, so I will report back when I have an opportunity to test that.
Purchased at Guitar Center for $99 US.
Hope this is helpful to some who are need of this type of device.
