OT: Tax Refund = System upgrade... Timing?

Hey gang - I've been out of the loop WRT hardware for quite some time. Even though I had thought that I'd wait for Windows Vista before making a precipitous move, I'm beginning to reconsider the config of my entire studio - going to a dual-proc-dual-core machine with a triple-head video card and be done with the two-PC setup for good. I've been reading that Intel will be putting downward pressure on the market with the pricing they have slated for their next generation of dual-core chips - and was wondering if there was a sense of what the real impact on that would be - and as important, when that might happen.

Is there anyone else that's waiting for the next price drop before they upgrade? Is it worth waiting? What about pricing on other componenets? (chipsets, system RAM) Are there any other "shifts" in the market that bode waiting it out?

TIA,
H3

Have you considered waiting for the new Apple Bootcamp software (which will run on their Intel-based machines)....then you could run Vegas right on a Mac!!! Just an idea.

If you are going dual-cpu-dual core, than you will want to run AMD chips.

I doubt Mac will have anything that is anywhere close to keeping up with this since intel won't for a little while and I wonder how speedy WinXP will be on a Mac, I know it's suppossed to be native.

The only reason I see for a Vegas user to use a Mac is if you use FCP or another Mac program regularly and just want one machine.

Sorry - I should have been clear... I'm an AMD (and to a certain extent, nVidia chipset) guy - have been building AMD-based systems for years now with no intentions of changing. When I said dual-core-dual-proc I assumed that everyone would know that's what I meant. :-)

That said - with Intel's new chip line, I expect some pressure to be asserted on prices across the board - particularly AMD - and so my question is related to making a puchase now versus waiting for the next shoe to drop.

I don't have anything against Macs or their users - some of my best friends are Mac users - but I'll never give a red cent to Steve Jobs. His history of patently unconscionable claims mean that he will never count me among his acolytes.
