I use TDK tapes (dv and Hi-8) in my two Sony cameras and they work great. Get the best price at Costco @about $3 each in 6 pack.

The one time I tried to use Sony tape in Hi-8 camera, my camera seized up and ended up at the repair shop. It was having motor noise problems before that but the different brand tape seemed to be the last straw.
Since the repair, I use only TDKs and all is working well.
