OT Temple Bar

Next time any videographers are in London, check out the reconstruction of Temple Bar near St Pauls Catherdral.

Temple Bar, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, was a gateway which once went over Fleet Street, and included spikes on which heads and other body parts of executed persons were displayed.

This at the time was the equivalent to a front page headline.

Isn't it good to get reminders of how we became civilised ..... what's that?

In the U.S., the Temple Bar is associated with Mory's Temple Bar, Yale University and the Wiffenpoofs. While no heads are known to have been impaled, many a Yale freshman has awakened after an evening carousing at Mory's and felt that his had been.

Thanks for the heads up, Peter. Will look for the restoration next Spring.
