OT - THANK YOU to All Who Have Helped Me Here

Some of the Grand Poubahs...

**

When I joined this forum 6 years ago after getting the my first real NLE - legal Vegas 6 disk-only for USD $99 at B&H - I had only some limited experience editing in Pinnacle 8. I also had an old JVC SD camcorder I had recently bought. Both of the latter were (likewise legit) eBay purchases.

Before that all I had was a $5 thrift store Logitech webcam. In short, newbie to video editing is understatement. As some of you know, I also subside on a rather limited Social Security income only (left the workforce in 1991) -- and video making is an albeit serious hobby; but pro I'll never be. I'm 57, not 22 :D

However as some of you know, I certainly have developed my own visual signature style, in part due to Particleillusion due to its extension of my also rather outside-the-box website.

The truth is, my indulgence in this art form is sporadic due to my disability-challenge (a form of chronic anxiety), so I don't have much to show for it in terms of public viewing. But it is one of the few come-back-to fulfilling things in my life. Apart from music which I compose-create even less often.

Not only have I considered many of you my mentors, but I have also enjoyed the sense of community, such as holiday threads of people wishing others well and sharing photos of oneself, one's families, etc.

I keep learning from all of you but have to admit that that holiday type ethos seems to have somewhat dissipated over the last few years. Seems a bit less family-like. So this thank you e-card I made is kind of a nostalgic retro-move to those days.
__________

The list above is most likely incomplete in terms of those who have helped me more than once over these years, and a couple of the people listed are no longer here or only visit very rarely/no longer post.

With sincere gratitude,

I can only echo Usher's sentiments and on a personal note add that my main motivation has been to "pay it forward".

Also, glad to help - and thanks for the shout out. Bob (farss) "play it forward" motivation is a good one!

I appreciate the humility expressed, but as we all know the value of someone's help or kindness it's not about quotas. Sometimes a "just" a smile can make someone's day. And to reverse this, I'm not one of the active participants here either, but that doesn't diminish the value of the assistance, tips, suggestions all of you have given me. You've taken the time to respond, sometimes at length. That's value. And in one very real sense, it is all paying-it-forward.

The truth is that any of us can be helped by running across and reading or even just scanning through a thread in which we are not involved/actively participating and yet we click away with new knowledge, a better way to deal with something. So I'm sure there are others who have been helped by you.

In other words, any of us can be "accidental Good Samaritans" but will never know it. (Maybe even something I've posted or suggested or just asked about has already or will help someone at some point after being here for 6 years :)

I can't tell if others mentioned in this thanks e-card-ish thing have seen their acknowledgment and some of you aren't easy to contact (I've tried). Perhaps posting a response is anti-modesty for some of you and if so I understand and a response is not required. I just have to trust that you've accepted the thanks even if in silence :D

Philip,

Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad I was able to help out with your web project. I've been in the video production business professionally since ~1975 -- but I've never seem to have been much help to others with the video stuff.

So, whenever I can help, I'm more that happy :-)
