Ordered a Dell i7 with buuilt in 19-1 card reader. Wanted to be able totransfer from cams that record on cards. BUT they forgot to configure it with the card reader. I got a message from them that they would send me an external 19-1 reader for free (?) but uts USB2. Just wondered if it reads any slower than an internal card reader would . Don't know how they connect internal card readers.

Both the internal and external use USB so I doubt you'd see any speed difference. I'd prefer the internal just so that one more external USB port is free for other uses. The internal USB connection is made from the reader directly to a header on the motherboard.

If you're comfortable opening the case, installing the reader and connecting the header to the motherboard, you may want to ask them to send you the internal card reader.

If you press them just a little more, a Dell tech will come to your home, install the internal reader, test the system, and ask if you need personal training on anything else.

A friend's new Dell laptop was shipped without the DVD writer he ordered, and they cheerfully did everything above with no charges.
