The laptop, I've never been a big fan of editing on a laptop, but oh well, that is just my personal preference.
The GL2, I just got one a month ago and I can tell you that you will absolutely love it! Especially if you have been using consumer cameras, this one will blow you away with it's picture quality and features.
I have purchased two GL2's. One for GE, and another for myself, once I saw how nice it was. The optical zoom is superbe, it uses regular camera lens (which I purchased separate from the GL2 purchase (much cheaper)), has good manual and automatic features. It was the perfect mix for a prosumer camera--even though it is used for professional corporate videos, etc.
XM2=UK here. Best purchase besides V4 I've done in the past year, besides V4.
1 - 20x Opitcal zoom
2 - Colour quality is excellent
3 - 2 x Manual audio channels
4 - Lots of options for manual settings
5 - White balancing is a cinch
6 - Feels Good!
7 - Nice BIG rubber Manual Focus ring
8 - When mastered the buttons are just in the right position
9 - Cheap enough to have something left for those Must Haves: Real pro PortABrace Cover; the LightWave mic muff, allowing the slpendid on board mic . . yes the onboard mic . . to do its thing; the Wide Angle WD58h; the LANC tripod controller and not forgetting the inexspensive VL3 3 watt - yes 3watt lamp . . .
Downsides
1 - Low light is not as good as the more expensive Sony VX2000 [ soon to be VX 2001 ]
2 - Not convinced by the optical image stabilizer - at all . . .
