That is hard for me to believe for a $4900.00 camera without accessories.

I only posted this because Onecall is an authorized Sony Internet dealer and I've bought several things from them in past with no issues.

If anyone knows otherwise about Onecall...let us know.

Also, their regular price for the FX1 is almost exactly the same as B&H (another good retailer). It's just that they have a coupon special going on now.

Our current selling price for the
Sony HDR-FX1 HDV 1080i Video Camcorder, 12 x Optical Zoom, Color Viewfinder, 3.5" LCD Screen that you requested is $3,129.99.
Thank you for shopping at B&H!

This is the price I got from B&H. With no coupon.

Ditto on OneCall. I've bought several items from them, including my Panasonic GS400, Sony 717 camera and a Sony ES receiver. They will match/beat any Sony-authorized price, and their service has never let me down. Also, their extended warranty prices are very reasonable (and if you never make a service call within the extended warranty period, call them and they refund 50% of the extended warranty price).

If the B&H quote is correct (which I'm sure it is, having just shopped their recently for the same camera), I'd pay the $200 extra to buy it there, just because I've had such good experience at B&H, as have dozens of other Sony forum participants. However, having said that, $200 is nothing to sneeze at ...

agree re B&H is reputable, always happy buying from them.. I'm tempted to buy a HD cam like the fx1 so that I can do wider angle shots and zoom in using Vegas in post and not lose as much resolution, when authoring for 720x480 SD DVDs..

curious, newbie question (sorry), what's the regular/native resolution that an FX1 HD will shoot in? and does it use regular mini-DV tapes or special HD ones (costs?)...

I'm thinking that using an HD cam whose footage is edited with Vegas in post may be a decent substitute for panning shots.. eg make a wider angle shot initially, then use pan/crop etc w/Vegas in post to manage pans with software vs hardware/realtime panning..

make sense or am I off base here? somebody'd suggested that when I asked about an autotracking tripod for pan shots (thx!), seems like a good idea..

I probably should have said...the Onecall coupon means you have add the word SAVEMORE in the coupon code entry on checkout...that's it
Spot|DSE wrote on 10/21/2005, 2:17 PM
This is a major benefit to shooting HDV and delivering in SD. You can pan/zoom/crop even if you're in widescreen, and can do wonderful things in 4:3. Zoom in as much as 60% without suffering dramatic loss like you'll suffer with DV.
Yes, the FX1/Z1 shoot on MiniDV. All HDV cameras do.

Thanks Spot - appreciate the tip ... motivates me to get the HD camcorder ... nice to know re 60% zoom w/o too much resolution loss, that's a big plus, providing a bigger video "palette" to work with, for pans/zooms/transitions...

Is there a new coupon code? SAVEMORE does not work..
