OT: TIVO and DVD playback problems

We recently burned a DVD for a client. Played it on two different DVD players in the shop and it worked perfectly. Client took it to a friend's house and played it. Called us immediately saying that the audio was out of sync by a couple of seconds, but only in certain places on the DVD.

She came in the next morning to pick up a new DVD (that I spent much of the night burning), and brought in the "faulty" discs. We played each of them in two different decks: absolutely no problems.

After questioning the client, we learned that the discs had been played on a TIVO device. Moreover, that the house was wired throughout for A/V and that the TIVO box was more than 100 feet from the TV on which the disc was watched.

I doubt that the length of the cable run had anything to do with the problem, but I wonder about TIVO. Anyone ever heard of a problem like this?

The payoff was that she tookone of the "faulty" discs and projected it at a party of 300 and it worked flawlessly. Lip sync was perfect, as was the image.

There is a thread on this in the TIVO forums. yes, there have been reported issues. I don't recall them all, but someone here pointed to the TIVO forums on an issue, so I went there to look around. Fascinating forums, that's for sure.
Anyway, I recall seeing something about this there.
