OT: Tornado Devastation...

I live in Jackson, TN where tornadoes devastated my alma mater. Miraculously there were no deaths on the campus of over 1,300 students. If you look at the pictures, one would be hard pressed to figure out how no one died.

We spent most of the night down in our basement listening to our local news talk radio station to keep up with what was going on. We got several text messages from some students we go to church with who said dorms were collapsing and students were trapped. Again, this is nothing short of a miracle and we are thankful that everyone on campus has survived.

I know that emotions will be running wild for a while and the students will not be going back to school for a while (there is just simply no place to house them). I am sure they could use our prayers.

it's crazy to see cars just sitting on top of other cars like that.

Probably what caught my attention the most.

I am really sorry to hear that Jeremy. We don't know how lucky we have it until something like that happens. Hope things work out for the students. Happy they are OK.

You know it's funny. The same thing happened following the infrastructure failure in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Because of changes in laws allowing media consolidation to accelerate the only local radio station left that hadn't been bought up by companies like Clear Channel was one that some guy built himself. The National Guard and FEMA ended up having to use his radio station as a result. PBS (AFAIK) were the only ones to cover the story later that year. Here was this guy with teeth badly in need of an orthodontist talking about his pride and joy (his radio station) and how happy he was that it became so indispensible. He even built the radio tower himself. It was truly heartwarming.

Thanks Dave and John.

50 something students went to the hospital last night and only 9 remained today; no deaths at all from the University. Looking at those pictures... you have to wonder how.
