Does anyone have any experience with the Manfrotto 190XV tripod? I don't have a lot of cash to spend right now but I need some solid and sturdy, but not really heavy.
Not that one excatly but I have a 755B with 701 head, which I think is quite similar. I like it very much, it's quite stabil and the head moved very smooth. I only use it with smaller cams though, for my FX7 and XHA1 I use a combination og 525 and 501, but that one is much heavier.
From what I understand it's really heavy, but I could get it for around the same price...however a lighter tripod would be nicer to haul around and that one might be too much.

Manfrotto sells it's legs and heads seperatly. Some retaillers will set a comlete set as a package, but when you receive it you will have to assemble the head onto the legs.
That model describes a set of legs only ... you need a video pan head on those legs .. which one(s) were you thinking about?
I think the 190 is too small and light, myself (I have one, use it for ease of carry with DSLR). It's only 4' high extended without the center column. A better match for the 501/503 head, IMO is whatever the current equivalent of the Bogen 3020 is (I think its the 055 series). It's considerably heavier than the 190, but is also less prone to flex, extends high enough so that you don't need the center column, and is not overpowered by the size and weight of the 501. (I use a 501 head on 3020 legs for video.)
From the URLs you've posted, you're obviously in Canada.
I do all my shopping at Vistek and use the Manfrotto 503HDV/525MVB Kit plus the dolly that matches it.
I can use my VX2000 or my new S270U and it works a treat. For around $900 you can't go wrong.

Ditto. I've got a Bogen 3021 Pro Tripod w/501 head that I picked up new for $300 back in 2005. I used it with my Sony HVR-Z1U before I got my Sachtler DV6SB. Now I use it with my Sony HVR-A1U. It's a solid tripod and a great performer for the price.
