I was just talking about turtles with Spot. My Dad's hobby was raising Indian Star Tortoises and Elongated Tortoises. They are much smaller than the ones shown here, but we could see a scene like this virtually any summer night in our backyard. The elongateds were particularly funny. Our male tortoise was kinda randy and my parents nicknamed him "EverReady." So say you are a female tortoise and let's say you are tired or have a headache and you don't want to deal with the amorous intentions of your mate, what do you do? You withdraw into your shell right? But EverReady had a seductive technique to deal with such situations. He would lift his shell as far off the ground as he could and then start to rock back and forth. Then he would rear back and slam his shell into the female. Again. and again. Until the female couldn't take it any longer and got up and scurried away and withdrew into her shell again. This would repeat itself until she gave in and he was able to mount. Sometimes she scurry away in the middle of the mount and the cycle would begin again. When he mounted he stick out his very pink turtle tongue and shake his little head back and forth and make a sound like Aaaahhhhhhhccckkkkk. This sound and the banging of one tortoise shell against another was the soundtrack to a lot of barbecues when I was a kid.
LOL! What a great story. You never know what you will get on this forum. Great stuff!

P.S. Was that a pun "Our male tortoise was kinda randy"? ;-)
Well....turtles definitely aren't a passion, but was impressed at the stamina of a 500lb turtle over the course of an hour...:-) Now I'm embarassed I posted the clip. Didn't think anyone really watched that stuff on Youtube.
Mostly, I wanted the sound, and was thrilled at the audio my low-grade HC3 captured.
But the skydiving...
Gotta tell you...spotting whales from 5k feet is incredible. I wish I'd had a belly cam on when I spotted em', so I could upload the incredible view. Much more fun jumping here than in the 2 feet of snow we've got back home.
Of course, you DID realise that that IS a robotic artwork installation? Yes? - They wheel it out for the vid-saps to video? . . .And the audio? There's an asthmatic zoo keeper in the background there .. you can just see him? Wheezing into a mic? - But hey, whatever gets your boat floated. I can't see myself "shelling-out" for THAT type of ADULT entertainment!!
( Douglas - brilliant . . loved it! I'm sending this out to others . . . Wow! ! ! Now THERE'S a viral marketing Plan for VASST?!?? Who'd have thought . . ?? You got me thinking MrD! You cetainly got me thinking .. indeed!)
Ok for you turtle fans here's a result of what happens a while after the vid Spot shot.
was driving home along the beach one day,and this was going on. I didn't have my video camera w me only my still cam. Have a freind who loves turtles. So I assembled this with Ult S.
Epirb,
Beautiful shots. Took me back to my youth treking down the Ft Lauderdale beaches at full moon watching the turtles deposit their eggs. Thanks for sharing.
