OT- ULEAD

Hey everyone, this is OT, but I thought y'all might want to know this. I recently had to install a new C drive and reload all my software. I have several Ulead products, and could not locate one of the install files. I got on the Ulead website, found my registration info for this program, and asked them to tell me where to download the install file. I have done this in the past (several years ago), so didn't expect any problems, after all, I did register the product. Bottom line, they refuse to give me the link because I don't have the original confirmation email from them. The say someone could steal my serial number and get the program illegally. When I registered, I gave them MY name and MY email address, which they certainly have on record. Thank goodness Sony (and SF) are reliable for supporting their customers!

Expect it to get worse. Ulead isn't Ulead anymore, now that their US assets have been purchased. DVD Workshop 3, which was due in August of last year.....who knows if it will ever fly.
They've gone from being very customer-oriented to "tough luck" mode in the past 18 months.

First I've heard of this, Spot. Can you point me to a source of info on the buyout?
We use DVDWS 1 and 2 and I've been looking forward to seeing what version 3 had to offer.

I agree that it's been getting worse. It's also quite difficult to even purchase the product. I tried to get the latest PhotoImpact recently and could not find it at any of our suppliers and had to jump through hoops trying to order it through the German company that now handles their USA direct sales.

It saddens me, because I first got thrilled about NLE editing when I started out on Media Studio Pro 5. It was quite a decent editor for it's time. I haven't upgraded since, but I understand it's still pretty decent.

PhotoImpact is about my favorite general purpose image editor, and I've made some pretty nifty things with Cool 3D Studio, another product that will not see any more development.
