OT: Ultra 2 Users..Need Help

p@mast3rs wrote on 9/26/2006, 5:39 PM
Ok, tried installing Ultra 2 and after entering my serial number it tells me that I need to install Ultra first. Hmmm...Wierd. I bought the Ultra 2 from their web site and it didnt say it was an upgrade (on order on on the box). Looked through their support section and seen nothing that looks like my problem. Any Ultra 2 users have any idea about this?

I emailed support but it was bounced back due to email header (assume because I use gmail for email.) Cant access their registered users forum because I cant get the software installed to register it. Not feeling too impressed with Serious Magic now. Anyone help?

Hi Patrick,
I have only seen this when installing the Ultra 2 upgrade. Are you certain you d/loaded the full version?

Other than that, I know they have some real weird security mechanism that requires certain hardware. I know you need either an ethernet adapter (or on board) or an IDE HDD. They lock onto some signature these carry. Perhaps that is what's tripping you up.

Tom

Nope, didnt download anything. Purchased it through school with a Purchase Order and boxed arrived today. Paid $271.50 (think the upgrade prices I saw was $195. I called tech support and ended up having to leave my number and I get to wait to get a call back.

At this point, I think Serious Magic sucks as a company. Went to purchase DVRack 2 one night and selected the wrong button and it charged my card and I have spent two weeks waiting to get a refund so I can make the correct purchase and now this crap. Add to it all this activation security junk and I feel like I just bought Windows all over again. GRRRRRR!

Wiped Registry and install is working now. Wierd. Maybe it was the trial I had installed that was messing up the install.

Glad you got out of your situation - it's after the fact now, but I gotta say I've had nothing but great support from the Serious Magic support team.

Wow, out of one pan and into another. Installed, updated, activated and ran the program. First thing I was met with was file ad2mpgvout.dll is missing and told me to reinstall the app which I did. Repated problem. Clicked through it and get into the program and try to follow one tutorial only problem when I play back the video, I have a white screen. I assume its because I am missing the playback file (ad2mpgvout.dll)

Any suggestions now? Vic, do you have a copy of this file and if so, could you send it to me? Much appreciation.

Patrick,
That file is NOT from ULTRA2.
Here's what I found by Googling the DLL.

"this file is NOT part of ULTRA - it's an MPEG-2 codec file that Adobe products install into Windows. The codec is incorrectly written. Normally, a codec file can be accessed from anywhere. This particular file needs to be in the directory with the application trying to access it."

HTH,
Tom

BTW. I have Ultar and Ultra2 installed and I do not have that file on my system.

Found it and copied it. Still have white screen during playback. Perhaps its from Cineform trial that pops up during Ultra 2 running.

Glad to have helped Patrick.
I have both Ultra2 and DVRack from SM and have never stopped being impressed by what these two pieces of s/w can do.

Bon chance in your endeavours.

I copied the ad2mpgvout.dll file from my Adobe to my Ultra2... and I still get the error saying it's missing.
