Don't forget, there's shipping of $8 too. If all I wanted was the flash memory, you could walk into Fry's and get something similar for $20 and not worry about rebates. But the included Security Suite is highly-rated by PC Mag. If you need the s/w, then this is a pretty good deal, I think.

i was just in Target & OfficeMax today. their cheapest 1gb's were $50.

yeah, of course there's shipping. But that varies so i didn't post that. :)

EDIT: it says "aditional purchase requred" but you don't need an aditional purchase. the rebate is for the software + the key, both are included in the purchase.

You can get a Ritek 1GB USB pen drive for $17.99 after $5 rebate (normally $22.99) at meritline.com. The offer ends August 31.

personally I Never buy anything with rebates anymore, I've long thought they were a big ripoff... over the years, back in 2000-2003 when I did them, eg compusa and other rebates, I'd send them in and often get back less than 40% of the checks I was supposed to.

so I think rebates are a carefully-orchestrated Ripoff policy from retail hardware computer companies. I will never ever buy anything from best buy/compusa due to rebates ever again.

I wish the FTC would look into it. The reason they use rebates are 1) many people will forget to mail them in, and 2) they can come up with many excuses as to why rebates aren't filled when they should be (eg claim to have mailed it when they don't, and not follow up, so we get ripped off).

So I buy from newegg mostly, and just look for best prices. I never trust rebates.

Anyone else find similar issues w/rebates?

the ONLY issue i've ever had with rebates with with my sattelite internet. my account needed to be up to date when the rebate was submitted but it wasn't (the invoices were). Due to a cc error on my part the charge posted 13 days late & I didn't get the rebate.

but that's it. I've gotten every other rebate i've submitted & that's been ~100.
