OT: Using AE/PA with Vegas: works great

Just wanted to let everyone know, using After Effects and ProAnimator together with Vegas produces a very professional combination of software...

the learning curve in AE is a nightmare... I've been reading all 15+ books w/tutorials from lynda/total training and it is an absolute horrendous learning curve... it would be *great* if Spot could create a DVD set for AE ... to make it understandable...

anyone else have experience/ tips using AE and proanimator along w/Vegas?

so far, it's a winning combination, but AE is causing me lost sleep lol.. in studying them all, Vegas still does 90% of what I need, but using AE/PA/3dsmax is good for broadcast-style titles, though a royal pita to learn all this meticulous 3d stuff, it'll be worth it...

Hey Ken,
I've got a yearly video project coming up and I try to make it bigger and better each year. I have AE 6.5, but haven't made much progress in learning it until I found www.videocopilot.net. They have a free set of online tuturials specifically for After Effects that have really helped me a lot. Check it out:

Bottom line is anything remotely 3D has a HUGE learning curve.
I've stumbled through 3D CAD in the past and ended up tutoring old school draftsmen making the simple switch from drawing boards to PCs and that was pretty hard going, getting them into 3D modelling took a lot of time and patience. Once they 'got it' they never looked back.
Stick with it, I'd say a year minimum is needed. I keep trying to master Truespace and what a royal PIA it is with context sensitive widgets all over the place.

PA I've found really easy to use, written by a guy who wanted to make it easy. The interface is a bit odd, I keep trying the 'hard' way to do things when the simple, bleeding obvious is right in front of me.

I took advantage of Digital Juice's special on Pro Animator (50% off)and it does make 3D titles a lot simpler. Also have AE CS3 - that is kind of on the to do list for learning. What I have produced from either, is easily brought into Vegas 8a - usually do QT/PNG compression.

Was able to render the 10bit Sony YUV from AE, so could use that, however, you have to render the Alpha separately, hence why I take the QT route for now.
