Yeah, the cut off for entering was midnight, Dec 31. Voting started at 12:01a.m. on Jan 1.

Read the rules, it clearly says the entries are due by New Year's Eve.
You can vote up to Jan 8th.

From the <rules page
Voting begins on January 1, 2006, and continues until January 8,2006, when the winner will be announced. Entries may begin at any time, and entries will no longer be taken after midnight, December 31.

I noticed that on the rules. However, if you look at the main vasst.com page it says "Vote or enter by January 8", which could be a bit confusing.

"Vote or enter by January 8th" is not confusing at all. It is quite clear and VASST has screwed up. I know of many fine entries by people waiting to be sent in this week. Just look at the few and very poor entries there so far. I'm very upset by this. Me and a couple of my students spent three whole days producing entries on the three days before Christmas and we were to get together and review entries today for submission.

This is not only hurtful to me and others but by excluding so many entries it looks bad for VASST and SONY because there are so few good entries there. I know of three entries that outshine, and show the capability of the Vegas Media Generator much better than anything submitted so far. I also had some comic entries.

No, VASST hasn't "screwed up," the Enter or Vote dialog has been the same on every contest for the past 16 months. And the rules page clearly spells it out.
However, because you 'know of many fine entries' I've had our IT person open up entries for the next 6 hours only.
It's not fair to those that read the rules and entered in accordance with the rules to do this, but if there are 'many entries' out there waiting to be entered, they've got until midnight tonight to enter.

Spot: You are a gentleman and a scholar. Now I'm under pressure to contact these three kids I've been introducing to Vegas and get their entries together but I will do it. I had two students my son Peter and a friend of his Pauline and they will be so happy just to put in an entry. For me I have an HDV entry done and a "comic" entry for the DV which I hope will at least bring a smile even if it will miss votes by being late - it's an idea inspired by my recent heart surgery.

I was wrong to say VASST screwed up they did not, just a confusion and I got a bit carried away with the emotion - it kept me awake all last night night thinking about what I would tell these kids.

There is some seriously cool stuff on there now and none of my absolute favourites are on top! AAAAH! I am SO glad I didn't enter my junk. Really cool stuff you guys!
And a SPECIAL thanks to those who gave links to a direct WMV file so I didn't have to download all necessary files, load them, render them, etc. Watching a little video is SO much more pleasant (until I want to see how it's done, then I like the veg).

Yes, I rendered every one to review for voting. Even the 17+ and 20+ second long ones.
Sorry I didn't include the wmv links with mine. I'll remember in the future.
