Wow! What a combination... I have just returned from a live shoot for a Military project (lots of bombs dropping, loud airplanes, even louder helicopters, etc...) wishing to record for a Surround Sound project.
Had 10 mics, "live" narrator/announcer, and live radio from the cockpit(s), all going to the 828MKII and an ADAT (used for the additional channels into the MOTU via lightpipe)... all onto a laptop with a 120 gig firewire HD for capture.
The only thing I can say is it worked flawlessly. Sound was also put to two large "Jumbotron's" for the live audience. and the only comments heard were... "WOW"!, "Unreal", "I can't believe I heard those sounds...", etc...
Zero latency monitoring on a laptop... and Vegas 5 preformed like a champ....
Just thought I'd share...
