OT: Vegas/Boris Red 3GL, Make masked image THICK?

kentwolf wrote on 5/2/2005, 6:19 AM
I am working on a Vegas project that involves essentially making a "thick" logo based on a scanned, masked image. I need to use Boris Red to do this.

Is there not a way to make this *irregularly* shaped masked (w/ alpha) image extruded/thick? I would have absolutely swore that I did this previously. I racked my brain through the night (up all night, at work now) and for the life of me I cannot remember how I did it.

It appears that the extrusion feature applies to text and pre-defined shapes (no problem there), not a still image file...but I am virtually dead certain I did this some months ago. Did maybe the 3.02 update remove this ability?

Can someone maybe tell me what I am missing? This is absolutely driving me insane.

Thanks.

kentwolf,

not sure if this will be helpful...there is a tutorial over on creativecow forum for making 2-D text graphics into extruded, 3-D-looking text graphics.

the tutorial uses an early version of red, 2.0 I think, but it should still be applicable.

best regards,

Lee

I will certainly take a look.

Thanks!

flippin:

As per that tutorial, ya know, that's not the way I did it before, but that will do just fine. Maybe I never even really did it... :)

Thanks a million!

If that doesn't work then get back us here or try the Boris forum at creative cow. I used a tutorial there last summer that showed me how to make a 3d or extruded version of a symbol I made by tracing it with their bezier curves or splines or whatever they call that stuff there.
Good luck!

Here's one way of doing it:

1. Create a 3D extrution track. Nested inside this track, there is a track called "silouette". By default it has a primitive object assiged to it. Change it to a "Spline Object"

2. Choose the tab called Textures, and check the "FR" checkbox.

3. Now a new nested track is created called "Front Texture", import your image here.

4. Select the Silouette track and start tracing the outline of your logo.

Good luck!

Thanks both of you. I guess I need to get more into the Red forums. I hardly ever use it, which makes it really hard to remember what I did months ago. I've always been able to do what I needed--just not twice in a row... :)

I will definitely try the second methodlogy mentioned.

Thank you all very, very much.
