OT Vegas Workstation & McAfee

I've stayed away from all the virus protections, other than Zone Alarm Firewall. Have run into a problem at my location and another that I help support. Looks like it's time for me to bite the bullet and put on a full security suite.

I qualify for McAfee from my current cable provider. Anyone have any good or bad experience on their editing machines with the current version of McAfee?

I have never had antivirus etc. on my edit workstations. I have a very "closed" system, where only very limited trafic (mail, surf ftp) can get out and only mail in. Then I have scanning of all mail at the ISP before it hit's our PC's for both virus and spam, and it has worked for years.

I would do as much as I can "before" the PC, but if you have to have antivirus, I think that you might need to turn of real-time scanning of all files and exclude som files from scanning at all, like avi, mpg mov etc.

I run McAfee on my Core i7-Vista-Vegas 8.1 system and it seems harmless. On my older 1.9 GHz Pentium it slowed down a lot of system functions checking for viruses but I never had a problem with Vegas that I could track to McAfee.

I would give it a try.

Never had problems with Vegas 8.0c and McAfee running in the background (click on my UID to see my system specs).
