OT: Vista 64 and HDV capture

kairosmatt wrote on 4/27/2010, 12:39 PM
I have a computer with both Vista 64 and XP and just installed a new firewire card.

Same Camera (sony HC1) same computer, same firewire connection. XP can capture from the camera, Vista 64 can't.

This has been talked about alot around the net, and most people say that if you upgrade to service pack 2 it will work. This particular computer I never wanted to update cause everything was working so smooth, but I did anyways with no problems but it still can't capture.

Anyone have any advice? It would make my life easier for capturing and video monitoring if I could do it through Vista 64.

Thanks

That is a bizarre scenario. I was going to suggest that it might be something related to settings in the BIOS but since you appear to be dual booting, I guess that rules out that possibility.
Could it be something related to admin rights/privileges in Vista? Maybe something in the registry? Did you or will you have install drivers for that new firewire card in both the XP and Vista partitions?

I've been capturing HDV on my Vista 64bit SP1 machine without a hiccup since I've put the machine together [November '08]

I have a similar issue with a Win 7 64 bit machine. Captures SD no problem, but HDV is difficult, it may capture an hour tape (rarely) or capture for only a few seconds, then lose connection (I have to stop/start/reconnect to device.
Canon HV-20 and Canon XH-A1.
Any advice anyone?

Interesting ideas,

I haven't tried to capture DV yet through Vista 64. If I could at least do that I could monitor via the firewire.

I'll look into admin privileges, but I think its set up so that I have full access.

I don't remember if I installed drivers that came with the card on CD. I'm almost certain that Vista recognizes it, because when I attach the HC1 it says new device found, but that it needs drivers. Sony's site says Vista should have all required drivers and there aren't any available for download.

I'll see what happens next,
Thanks!

Nope, can't capture DV either.
But Vista does recognize that a device is attached, just can't use it.

Update:

I just found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927827/en-us

Not really into editing my registry, and the computer is in the middle of an intensive render. Maybe tomorrow night after backing everything up I will give it a try...

...unless someone else has a better idea!
