OT: Vista64 & Decklink

Just bought 3 new 64bit PC's (Core2Quad Q9450) with VistUltimate(64bitOS) in preparation partly for SCS 64bit impending(?) release. (plus we use one of the worlds only true 64bit programs - Maya).

Put Decklink (standard) cards into the system and we can't get them to work. Have contacted Blackmagic Support and I'm getting pretty stock-standard answers which either don't answer my questions directly or don't work.
So .... is anyone out there running Vista64 or Ultimate on a Quadcore and getting Decklink to work.

Matt Wright or John Cline - either of you have this running?

I'm running the Intensity Pro under Vista64 Ultimate SP1 on a QX6700 Quad-core. For some reason, the latest v2.0 drivers didn't install the codecs, so I went back to v1.8.8. It works as it should. What kind of problem are you having?

We are using VistaUltimate SP1.
We install the Nvidia drivers for QuadroFX - have tried many drivers going back a year as well - then install the Decklink card and the BM driver for x64 - 6.7_x64. The Decklink card is not recognised by BM's Media Express or Windows desktop. As we watch the BM driver installation we only see two drivers installed whereas under XP we had three - RS422-Audio-Video. This is now automatic as it used to not be digitally signed. We even when back to a Wndows VGA driver but this didn't work either.
In the Vista Display settings we see the 2nd monitor as a 600x800pixel "Default monitor on Quadro FX1700". So the system is seeing a 2nd display but isn't recognising the BM driver. We are unable to make any changes within this setting box, and no SDI signal is being sent out the card. In the "System- Device Manager" window we only see under the 'Dispay Adapter' - QuadroFX registered (no Decklink). Under the 'Sound, video & game controllers' we see1. Blackmagic Decklink 2. Blackmagic Decklink audio - these I believe are referring to the sound out and rs422 controller.
Media Express - the BM standalone utility wont access the card either.
According to MS website Vista only supports one graphics driver because of its WDDM.

So I'm trying to see if anyone else has actually got the card working under Vista.
I've been trying support from BM but .......

How ya doing, Yep we are running one system here which is a MacPro, with Vista 64 on it, and it does work fine, we are running 1.8.8 drivers with the Intensity card.

My guess on your problem is one that I came accross a while ago, I think the Decklink Standard or in fact any Decklink Card which is not of the PCI-e variety cannot work in any system with over 2GB Ram. You need to basically ditch the card, and get PCI-e versions. I ran into the same problem with an old Decklink HD Pro PCI-X and tried absolutely everything to get it to work,, re-install's,changing OS, etc, in the end I sold mine on e-bay and got the Decklink PCI-e cards.

The way to prove this is to take some of your RAM out down to 2GB, Uninstall and then re-install.

I used a PCI-X Decklink Extreme (non-HD) for several years with more than 2GB RAM, under Windows XP SP2. No problem.

This doesn't mean that the HD version of the card couldn't have this problem. If so, it would be a classical I/O-memory conflict.

Hi There, Yep I think you may be right, but in the case of 32 bit Windows, as Windows will just limit the RAM to 2GB / 3GB (but only 2GB for system) anyway, and so that is all that the Decklink will see. But under 64 bit systems, the Decklink can see all the RAM, and cannot / was not designed at board level to be accessed by more than 2GB ram.

I had the same problem for ages, and managed to eventuallly speak to someone with some knowledge at BlackMagic

MattWright ..... you just saved me throwing the computers out the window!! Thanks, I should have tried this myself.
We have another system with Xp_x64 on it and it had 2GB RAM taken out of it (had 4GB ) and sitting going to waste in a drawer.

So.. the original Decklink cards don't work with more than 2GB RAM... period.

I do have the decklink working now under Vista64... but with only the 2GB, which is such a watse of a 64bit system. Guess I'll have to get a new PCIe Decklink or two(or three).
