OT: Vittorio Storaro & Univisium 1:2

For those who might be interested, I found an interesting little article on Vittorio Storaro's site. He suggests there be an industry ratio standard of 1:2 for image/screen size and why.

You can read what he has to say here. Click on "MENU" beneath his photograph at the left. Then click on "UNIVISIUM 1:2". That will take you to the article.

Vittorio is one of the true giants of the industry and anything he has to say is worth consideration. I only wish I could afford his mighty tome, "Writing With Light":

I'm with you, Bob. I spent part of the week-end trying to justify a way to pay $500 for three books and a DVD. Unfortunately, I just couldn't do it. Like you said, Storaro "is one of the true giants of the industry." (So it's not like it's any three book and a DVD. It was not my intention to "cheapen" Storaro's work!)

He was kind enough to reply to query in these regards. He said:

"Thank you for the interest in my trilogy books. I'm preparing with Mondadori "THE BEST OF...", a single book that will be the resume of the most important : Philosophy-Paintings-Images and Films of the entire trilogy. The new title will be "STORARO: WRITING WITH LIGHT-COLORS-ELEMENTS". It will not be a paperbook, it will have a new more elegant Images, some of them in a special DOUBLE TWO PAGES and probably will be in a special package that include a DVD (With a same title) as bonus. We think it will be ready late in 2010."

That's one book I will be anxiously looking forward to!

By-the-way, I took some random shots and dropped them on the TL. They were then cropped to 1920x960 (1:2), as Storaro suggested. Occasionally, I had to adjust up or down slightly, but things seemed to fit into that ratio rather nicely.

Maybe I can use this as a new "selling point"... All video shot in the new UNIVISIUM 1:2 format!
