OT: WARNING!! iTunes 10 now available

rs170a wrote on 9/1/2010, 11:50 AM
Steve Jobs announced immediate release of iTunes 10 today so make sure that, if you're a Vegas user who also uses iTunes, that it is NOT set to auto update itself.
Remember what happened the last time a new version of iTunes was released :-(
I don't think Sony will bail us out of a new mess anytime soon.

What was the problem? I've got iTunes and don't recall it causing a problem with Vegas. But then again my memory is like a sieve.

Jay, I guess you missed this thread :-)
iTunes, Quicktime Update, Mov's, Issues

What was the problem?

iPhone demands iTunes update. iTune update demands QuickTime update. QuickTime update breaks Vegas. Vegas update catches up with most recent QuickTime update. Subsequent QuickTime update breaks Vegas again.
Many threads about this.

Oh yes, I remember losing the ability to import MOV files into Vegas after one update.

I tread lightly with these updates and cross my fingers, butt cheeks and whatever after I install them.

"I don't think Sony will bail us out of a new mess anytime soon."

Apple changes their API, and don't tell anyone, and this is, somehow, Sony's fault? Quicktime updates break a lot of non-Apple programs, so this is a poor excuse to slam Sony.

Apple does not release their API updates to outside developers until just days before a product announcement, precisely to keep the leaks checked. Of course, all of the Apple programmers had the new API months ago.

Thanks for the warning, I've managed to avoid all versions of iTunes so far and I will continue to do so. Long live the Android (DroidX) phone!

I never said it was Sony's fault so please don't read into my statement something that was never there to begin with.
Sony was very quick in responding to issues with a recent new version of QuickTime and that was greatly appreciated.
However, if the new iTunes/QuickTime fouls up our systems once again, we can't expect them to drop everything and fix a problem when it's not their fault to begin with.

So, can anyone verify if they installed iTunes 10 without any ill effect to Vegas 9.0e?
L8R wrote on 9/7/2010, 8:38 PM
I did last night.. so far so good.
I'm not sure where to look for issues though.
Project wise there is no differences. Haven't tried rendering yet.

Can you try importing and exporting .mov QuickTime files? Try importing a Quicktime encoded with H.264. If something is wrong the video may render as black when in the timeline. Also, try importing an unprotected AAC audio file and see if it works. Thanks.

Works here.
