A few quotes regarding OnRebate (Tiger Direct's own rebate company)

From a Google Search:
"I have heard that all rebates offered from Tiger
Direct are never honoured. But a deal came along and I couldn't pass it up,
and the mail-in's were to Soyo (Motherboard / Memory manufacturer) so I
figured that Tiger Direct had nothing to do with it...boy was I wrong. I
sent in 2 rebates (2 names and addresses, 2 different receipts) to Soyo with
12-14 weeks processing time! I mailed them Nov 5, because I had heard of
the potential problems I called 3 weeks later just to make sure they
received it (no online tracking). I was told that I wasn't on file but they
might have received it but that they only have 2 people in the rebate
department and tons of stuff to sort through and to call back in 2-3 weeks.
I called back a month later and was told the same thing, so I compalined and
was told a manager would call me back. I never received a call, haven't
been able to reach anyone by phone or email and have not had my messages
returned. Even though the rebate is through Soyo, I have been told that
this is what happens with all rebates offered via Tiger Direct. Either way,
the last time I spoke with them was nearly 2 months after it was mailed and
they "hadn't received it yet"......assuming they will receive it the 12-14
weeks doesn't start until after they receive my form....great."

I've bought lots of stuff from TigerDirect and haven't had any problems with the rebates getting to me. Still, $129 for 200GB is still a pretty good deal :)

I've also bought from TigerDirect and had no problems.

The owner of Tiger Direct is one of my customers, I will pass the info on to him about the Poor Rebate record they have on the street. I've heard that before from others else where, but never had that problem myself.

I've had no problems with Tiger Direct.

I see posts complaining about all sorts of vendors, and unless I see LOTS of them, I ignore them. For example, Meritline is a vendor that lots of people complain about, but I've ordered dozens of things from them and, for me, they are as good as Amazon or B&H, the two vendors I generally believe represent the "gold standard" of on-line vendors.

Well, I ordered this hardisk on Monday and it appeared the next day on my doorstep. It helps to live 60 miles or so away. Still...

Now how do I make this EIDE drive work? I replaced an older drive in an external firewire enclosure and it doesn't come up.... hmmm.

Anyway, impressive shipping.

Glad to hear that my concerns were ill founded.
I post a lot of deals myself and am very reluctant in my own posts to recommend "bargains" with questionable rebates. That is why I don't post more of them.

i really wish the whole "rebate" thing went away ....

it is is a really royal pain ... and an excellent method for them to harvest info
