I finally got sold on the hard drive archival method and decided about 33 cents a gig is all I wanted pay. Walked into CompUSA here in Roseville, MN and they had 300G samsungs for $100 a piece, no send-in rebate. Bought two. this offer sounds in line with that, but I won't need more for a while.

It's a great method. My aluminum Lian Li case has a transparent side panel that comes off in a flash, and I use one single thumbscrew to hold the drive in place. I just unscrew it and pop in another one. Simple as that.

John, I bought two $34 USB cases from CompUSA and they come apart easy (push in the sides). Just for safety's sake I'm going to duplicate my backups onto two hard drives rather than one. Since I'm just the extended family videographer, two 300 gigs should do me for close to a year. Also, using the HuffYUV lossless codec I now find I can save a lot of space I formerly used in compiles using the Sony YUV.

John, how is it you always find these great deals? You get an email notification or are you just constantly on the prowl?

Anybody know a good case, where you can you put 2 or 3 external hard drives in at once?

Thanks.

There are websites devoted to bargains. I search them every day because I love a bargain. If I think they might benefit someone here I post them. I try to be careful and not post "deals" from unknown or shady vendors. Resellerratings is good for that.

The ones I check most frequently are:

AnandTech Hot Deals

Bensbargains

Spoofee

Techdeals

TechbargainsFatWallet

XPBargains

and

CheapStingyBargains

Check these out.
You might find them cheaper if you search around. They are called Hard Drive Racks. Newegg has a small selection of the mobile racks.

Those of us fortunate enough to live in "Fry's country" know to check Friday's newspaper for the Friday Fry's ad. For me, it's a twenty minute drive to what my geek friends and I affectionately refer to as....Mecca. For those of you in the deserts of Utah, the frozen tundra of the midwest or living upside-down in Australia, you can check outpost.com (Fry's online) where the deals are equally impressive...just add shipping.

And beware of the "full manufacturers warranty stickers" and expired rebate certificates...

intel i-4790k / Asus Z97 Pro / 32GB Crucial RAM / Nvidia GTX 560Ti / 500GB Samsung SSD / 256 GB Samsung SSD / 2-WDC 4TB Black HDD's / 2-WDC 1TB HDD's / 2-HP 23" Monitors / Various MIDI gear, controllers and audio interfaces

BusterKeaton,
If you are still looking around for mobile racks and external hard drive bays you might find the prices attractive at CensusPC.
