OT: What is the real scoop on Pentium M for video editing?

I'm about going mad trying to research specs for my new laptop. So much conflicting information out there. Here's alll I want out of a latop.

- Something that doesn't weigh a metric ton
- Good to great performance, but not "steroidal" water-cooled maniac speed.
- Something quiet!!! (When I'm browsing the web or writing an email, I'd like to hear myself think. A little fan noise is acceptable during a long render, but not while you're staring at a web page.)

Anyway, despite some warnings in here about the Pentium M proc, I'm reading a lot of things that indicate it's a solid performer that runs quiet, cool and on low voltage. I also read that it handles more instructions per clock cycle than a P4, and therefore is a better performer than it might appear at first glance.

Does a Pentium M 2 ghz notebook have enough horses to edit video? And I'm not talking just "straight cuts" video, but video with color correction, multiple tracks, maybe a filter or two?

I'm very interested to hear ALL opinions on this. There's a lot of info out there, but none of it's coming from video editors. What say the video guys?

Thanks,
Scott

P.S. I'm attracted to the Sager laptops, which seem to have great specs for a great price. But I worry that they're noisy and hot as hell. Any Sager users out there?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. This report makes it sound like the "M" is a legitimate alternative to a bulked-up P4:

I use a hypersonic laptop which is a re-branded sager, 8790. Its a great machine 3.2ghz p4 HT with 2gb ram 2 60gb 7200 rpm drives. But, it is not a laptop! It is a desktop replacment. It is Hot, fans run and are noisy, and battery life sucks, 1/2 an hour with the 8 cell. But i love it.

Hello,

Sorry if this is a double post..somehow my first post did not show up.. yet..
Anyway I use an HP 1.5 GHZ Centrino laptop with 512 meg ram.. to do most of my editing using Sony Vegas 5, DVD Architect,After Effects 6.5 for my compositing, Lightwave for my 3D.. all on this laptop which performs very well..
Also I just attended a Photogrphy Convention last week(PMA) and in the Sony booth they were showing a brand new Sony Laptop.. ( it had a 690 in the model number) and it had a 2 GHZ Centrino with the Sonoma Chipset, 533 mhz PCI express bus..I think 1 gig Ram, 100 GB hard Drive, nice ultra brite screen.. dual layer DVD burner... not sure about the video card.. but looked like a nice system to use as a portable Video Editing workhorse..I was eyeing it with the thought of editing HDV on it..
Anyway the sales guy said it would retail around $2500..

this guy put some Pentium M's on there (for comparison). But, with that chart you can see what your best CPU for your laptop could be (ie P4 vs PM vs AMD, etc)
